Mumbai Restaurants Must Disclose Cheese Analogue

FDA enforcement begins May 1 after industry deadline

Culture food-regulationtransparency

Mumbai's Food and Drugs Administration began enforcing mandatory cheese analogue disclosure on May 1, after setting April 30 as the deadline for restaurants, hotels, caterers, and fast food vendors to state cheese analogue use on menus and display boards.

The directive follows FSSAI West Region's Public Notice dated April 22, emphasizing clear disclosure to prevent misleading consumers about processed cheese substitutes.

Violators now face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The crackdown targets establishments using cheaper cheese substitutes without proper labeling.
